Hello, and welcome to Martial Arts Techniques: a discussion.
This blog will deal with discussion on how to better one's techniques by offering advice as well as asking questions of the readers. Many of you are probably wondering how I claim to be an authority in the subject matter. I do not claim to be the authority, but after 12 years of martial arts training, I do claim to have experience in the subject matter. Things I will not be posting on this blog include the following:
Lethal techniques: I will not post anything related to lethal techniques, and I will take down anything I judge to be such a technique. This blog will not be responsible in helping anyone take a life.
Weapons: Once again, I will stay away from weapons to keep things on public friendly basis.
Techniques that lead to serious injury: This is a matter that I will leave up to my discretion. If I believe that a post is being used or maybe used for more than self betterment or self defense, i will take it down. I will help people hurt each other.
In that, I believe you can see my philosophy behind this blog. It is for self improvement and defense, not for learning how to beat people up. I am hoping that this will lead to serious discussions on how to effectively defend oneself instead of how to hurt one's opponent.
Now on to the first topic of discussion:
Let's start with the basics, a perfect punch. How do you throw a punch? How far do you extend your arm? Do you lock your elbow? What timing do you use? All these are important aspects when throwing a punch. In the korean style that I study, a punch should not be fully extended, and should twist as it's being thrown for maximum effect. The amount of weight behind it is up to the user, but it should be enough to be effective. Expect a video example to be uploaded later.
